Here begins a report from an epic two-month bucket list journey across the Arctic from Svalbard at 15 degrees East longitude to the Bering Strait at 168 degrees West longitude. In this first report I ‘cherry pick’ the most significant encounters with the apex predator and the most iconic of the many creatures I saw during this journey. In this video, I share my experiences meeting no less than nine individuals. Enjoy. (Please forgive the misspelling (‘then’ instead of ‘than’ near the beginning.)
Below, I’m posting some of the stills. The one at the top of this post is from the encounter in the Beaufort Sea of two bears at once. Because I was keeping count, in the order in which I saw them I called them bears 7 and 8 of nine. So, let’s now start from the beginning:
Well, we headed back to town at a steady pace and were soon out of sight of it. The Inuit have authority to hunt bears, and in this little hamlet of about 350 people, we saw a couple of bear skins stretched out to dry.
